FAQ

Why did Teachstone® introduce the CLASS® 2nd Edition tool?

The CLASS 2nd Edition tool builds on the proven CLASS® tool and incorporates over a decade of research and field feedback. The updates provide better tools and clearer guidance for measuring interactions, streamlined age-level tools for greater consistency, and expanded role-based supports to strengthen educator–child interactions.

Will the CLASS 2008 tool continue to be supported?

Yes. Organizations can continue to use the CLASS 2008 tool or move to the CLASS 2nd Edition tool, choosing the version that best meets their program needs.

If I’m only certified in the CLASS 2008 tool, which age group should I start with in the CLASS 2nd Edition tool?

We recommend starting with the Pre-K–3rd products to take advantage of transition offerings. Training for this age group is more streamlined, and certification costs are lower than taking multiple separate tools.
