Affiliate Trainer Transition FAQs

Learn more about what CLASS® 2nd Edition means for you, your trainees, and recertification processes.

How can trainers transition to CLASS 2nd Edition?

You can transition to CLASS 2nd Edition in two steps.

  1. First, transition the observer part of your certification by taking the CLASS 2nd Edition Observer Transition course. You can do this via the free online course on your myTeachstone dashboard or by signing up for a facilitated transition training. Then you’ll recertify on CLASS 2nd Edition. If your trainer or observer certifications are on both Pre-K and K-3, you will only have to take one recertification test once you’ve transitioned to CLASS 2nd Edition.
  2. You may begin transitioning the trainer part of your certification in Spring 2023 by completing the CLASS 2nd Edition Observation Training onboarding process.

When should trainers transition to CLASS 2nd Edition?

Follow your program’s guidance on when to transition to CLASS 2nd Edition. They may ask you to transition this year or to wait. You must transition your observer certification to 2nd Edition before onboarding to deliver CLASS 2nd Edition training. You’ll want to transition during the school year before you need to start collecting CLASS 2nd Edition data or providing CLASS 2nd Edition training.

What are the new recertification options, and how do they work?

You may remain on CLASS 2008 or move to CLASS 2nd Edition when it’s time to recertify. In most cases, you will access your preferred test(s) by clicking the Renew button on the Certification page and selecting your preferred testing option in the Teachstone store.

The following cases require that you reach out to customer support to get set up rather than accessing your test through the Certification page:

  1. If you’re a K-3-only trainer and want to test on CLASS 2008.
  2. If you’re a Pre-K trainer and a K-3 observer, want to test on CLASS 2nd Edition, and you’re due to recertify on K-3 first.
  3. If you’re a K-3 trainer and a Pre-K observer, want to test on CLASS 2nd Edition, and you’re due to recertify on Pre-K first.
  4. If you’re a trainer on both Pre-K and K-3 and want to test on CLASS 2nd Edition.

What else do trainers need to know?

  • The Knowledge Test is disabled until Spring 2023 as it’s redesigned. In the meantime, passing the observer portion of the recertification test will also renew your trainer certification.
  • If you currently have a CLASS 2008 observer certification and need to collect CLASS 2nd Edition data or deliver CLASS 2nd Edition training before your next recertification date, you must first transition to CLASS 2nd Edition. Teachstone may waive the cost of this additional recertification test. Contact our customer support team to be considered for this accommodation.
  • Opportunities to onboard to deliver 2nd Edition CLASS Observation Training and CLASS 2nd Edition Training for Educators are coming in 2023. Additional details about the timing, cost, and format of these experiences are coming soon.
